Finally got around to using it, I really like the installer, what I didn't like is the install time, an hour installation is way too long, I can probably download & install the game twice from steam in that time.

So, I've done my own file list to create 4xDVD9 compression with 0 (Zero) compression rate (Freearc -M0) using the same data files numbers & allocation to disc, so it's still works with your installer, final 4xDVD9 size ends up as follows:

DVD1: 7.93GB
DVD2: 7.50GB
DVD3: 7:72GB
DVD4: 5.32GB

I've also included the _CommonRedist folder in the compression of Data5 at 4th DVD so it will be included in the game folder like the original steam version.

Install time dropped from approximately 1 hour to approximately 10-15 minutes.

BTW, the Redist are not being installed from DVD4, it does however when move to Disc 1 so step 2 in your instruction should actually be

Code: Select all

2. Move _CommonRedist folder to {conversiondir}\FFXIII-2_1

instead of

Code: Select all

2. Move _CommonRedist folder to {conversiondir}\FFXIII-2_4

Seems like you set the redist to beforeinstall=1 and not beforeinstall=0 like specified in your post.

Anyhow, my 4xDVD9 compression is tested & working with your installer so for anyone who wants it, here's the link to download the compressor.

Download FFXIII2_4xDVD9_CompressOnly.rar

Instructions:

1) Download & extract, anywhere but the game folder

2) Copy _CommonRedist to folder FFXIII-2_DVD1

3) Copy KaktoR's Setup.exe file to FFXIII-2_DVD1 folder as well

4) Run compress.bat, type your game folder and wait for finish message.

5) Make ISO files with script or manually

6) Test before burning.

Thanks for the Info about redists. I will change that in OP. Regarding install time: For me it's only ~20-25min (unlike FFXIII, which is a bit longer).

You can add new proper OP with dvd9, if you wish. You have green light :D

Don't know, maybe I will, maybe I won't, we'll see.

Oh, btw, for future, vcredist 2012 & above, the /quiet switch is better than the /passive switch, it installs completely in the background without even showing the VC setup windows, unlike in passive mode.

Thank you. Dont know where to look about the passives, nor which can be used. Any place where i can search for them for all the redists?

The wiki on bitbucket have most of the information for redists, as for vcredist specifcally run the executable with the /? switch and you'll get a window of all available options.

Finally got around to testing this conversion. I think I can get it down to 3xdvd5 with better times by removing the chinese video and adjusting files and compression slightly. Busy testing now. Will post again after all tests are done

It's the same as XIII. For example, if you remove all JP files from sys folder, cab size is the same as if you compress both JP and EN files. Only compression time got decrased. But i've not tested if the game works properly with removed JP files.

Ok, so I've completed testing last night already. Removed all large JP files. Everything else should still be there. Game works fine. (I unfortunately don't have the entire game with JP files for a while already. Deleted a long time ago when I first backed up. Only EN for me)

Tested between hdds only. No SSDs

Times:
Compression - ~40mins
Install - <10min

Sizes:
DVD1 - 3.71GB (4.11 with Redist)
DVD2 - 4.26GB
DVD3 - 4.12GB
Total - 12.5GB (With Redist)

Ok so I'm not sure if the compression and installation times are because of the new system or not. Could someone with the game please PM me and I'll send them a link with my compression method for testing.
